Bone Dry Comedy Hour Open Mic Rules

Bozeman comedy open mic nights are all about having fun. It’s essentially an organized party and everyone is there to laugh and be silly. Knowing and following some fundamental rules will help everyone have a good time.

SHOW TIMES & Location >< The Bone Dry Comedy Hour is EVERY Tuesday at 8pm, at Last Best Comedy Club in Bozeman, Montana. Follow us on instagram HERE to stay up to date with any schedule or holiday changes.

SIGN UP >< The Bone Dry Comedy open mic sign up is available the Saturday & Sunday before the weekly Tuesday comedy open mic. Click HERE to sign up!

THE LIST >< Tuesday morning we send out the list of who will be performing that night. Key information on the list includes…

  • Who the host is - this will be at the top of the list.

  • Your place in the line up - if you made the line up for that Tuesday you will see your name on the main list. If you did not make the list you will see your name on the bump list, this occurs if too many people signed up. If you are on the bump list you are guranteed a spot the next week IF you sign up again.

  • Your allocated time - Next to your name you will see if you ahve been given 3, 4 or 5 minutes. This will be indicated by either (3), (4) or (5).

ARRIVAL >< When you arrive at Last Best Comedy Club check in with the host or put a tick by your name on the sign up list by the door. At our open mics we ask every performer to check in at least 15 minutes before their stage time. Just don’t expect to get on stage if you show up one minute before you’re due to perform. that’s because lots of people no-show and it needs to be clear (to the host) whether you are present or not.

EQUIPMENT >< Watch how everyone else is handling the equipment and do likewise. Never purposefully drop a microphone, i.e do not do a mic drop! Never try any stunts with the equipment.

SCHEDULE >< Keeping the show in schedule is the main consideration on the host, and to help them do this you must keep to your allotted time, otherwise you will fall into the blasted action of “Burning the Light”. Since you were aware beforehand of your time try to prepare material that fits your time well, always remember to account for laugh time in your practise.

At the Tuesday Stand Up Comedy Open Mic we use a green light given to the performer when they have one minute left and a red light given when the time is done. It’s totally fine to continue 5 seconds past your red light. 10 seconds past would start to delay the show. Once you get past 20 seconds of unauthorized overtime the host will assume you’ve gone rogue and either tackle you into the ground or be legit annoyed with you. So anyway, you should almost always be finishing your set BEFORE the red light comes on - remember, it’s always fully okay to finish early. And if you get the red light, spit out whatever punchline you’ve been working towards or simply say “Oh, I’m out of time. Bye!” Please help keep the show on schedule!

RESPECT YOUR FELLOW COMEDIANS >< By far, the easiest way to get into trouble is if you cause strife with the other comics. Do not heckle them, do not harass them, and don’t roast them unless you’re sure they’re up for it. The whole hobby is about creativity and art - insulting someone’s art is totally out of bounds.

You will find the stand-up comedy community one of the most interesting and supportive groups of people in town and befriending them is a sure way of adding much joy to your life.

We look forward to you signing up to Montana’s best stand up comedy open mic!
